For more information on property assessments and the
tax process, read our FAQ page on the
Will County Supervisor of Assessments main website
(www.willcountysoa.com).
1) What is the process of filing a Complaint?
Will County's
Guide to Filing a Complaint
pdf brochure details the step-by-step process of filing a property assessment complaint.
2) What is a Parcel ID Number (aka "PIN")?
A Parcel ID Number is the identification code assigned to
a property. Every property has its own unique Parcel ID Number. Parcel ID Numbers are used for record keeping and tax
purposes in a county or geographic region. Some other names for Parcel ID Number are: "Parcel Number", "
Property Index Number ", and "PIN".
3) I don't know my property's Parcel ID Number.
How can I find out what my property's Parcel ID Number is?
If you don't know your property's Parcel ID Number
(aka "PIN"), you can look it up by using the
Property Search Portal
on
Will County Supervisor of Assessments
main website (www.willcountysoa.com). The Will County SOA
Property Search Portal
allows you to look up property in Will County by address, owner name, subdivision, sale date and/or amount, or
PIN. Your Parcel ID Number (aka "PIN") can also be found on your tax bill and other such documents.
4) What is an Assessment?
An assessment is the property value that is officially entered in the county assessment books (sometimes
called the "tax roll"). This value is used to determine what portion of the total tax burden each property
owner will bear. Your Assessed Value is 33.33% of the Fair Market Value of your property. Remember, Will
County uses a three-year study to determine assessments; therefore, we are always a year behind. For example,
2026 assessments are based off of sales data from 2023, 2024, and 2025.
5) What can I do if I don't agree with my Assessment?
It is strongly recommended that you discuss your assessment with your local Township Assessor before you file
a complaint at the County level. If you would still like to file a complaint after speaking with your
local Township Assessor, you may file a complaint with the Will County Board of Review.
Residential, Farm, Commercial, and Industrial complaint forms are available to download in PDF format.
6) What is "BOR" and what do they do?
BOR stands for "Board of Review". The Board of Review prides itself on assisting property owners with
the Board of Review complaint process as well as the State complaint process. The Board of Review also
approves Senior Assessment Freeze Exemptions and refers Tax Exemptions to the Illinois Department of
Revenue. Complaints are processed, scheduled for hearing, reviewed and the final decisions are entered
into the computer, then mailed to all complainants. The Board of Review considers all evidence presented
before them to arrive at a fair and equitable assessed value within the guidelines of state statute. To
find out more about the duties of the Board of Review,
